What made you study Speech Pathology?

I chose to study Speech Pathology because I have always wanted to do something in healthcare and am very passionate about helping people. My sister is an Occupational Therapist and was the one who suggested Speech Pathology to me. After looking into it further I knew it was the right profession for me because it combined two of my passions – helping people and talking!

What is your favourite part about working with our participants?

I really enjoy the diverse caseload that Better Rehab offers. Every day is different, and I am constantly being challenged and having new experiences. I really enjoy being able to see my participants long-term to help them to achieve their goals. It is really rewarding when you have been working with a participant regularly and you can see the progress they are making.

Can you think of a time recently that made you feel really proud to be working with Better Rehab?

Working at Better Rehab has provided me with the opportunity to support my participants to communicate independently. I have been fortunate enough to have some high-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices approved for my participants. One of my clients with Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease experienced significant difficulty communicating verbally prior to the provision of his AAC device. Now he can express his feelings and thoughts easily to his communication partner. He is also able to independently order his favourite beer at the local pub. It makes me really proud to work at Better Rehab and to have the opportunity to assist my participants with reaching their goals.

What is something unique or interesting about you?

I moved around a lot during my schooling years. I had lived in 6 different towns by the time I was 19. I credit moving around so much to why I have such an outgoing and bubbly personality which has served me well as a Speech Pathologist. I also really enjoy cooking and eating and will often spend my weekends trying out new recipes, both savoury and sweet.
