Hi my name is Joe, and I’m a Physiotherapist at Better Rehab.

Pain is always a personal experience, and no one can truly understand the pain someone else is experiencing.

Persistent pain or chronic pain is any pain that goes on for longer than would be expected after an injury or illness.

Chronic pain is complex because it involves the nerves and nervous system and what is experienced is not just physical but emotional as well.

So far this all sounds doom and gloom, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. With the help of Physiotherapy in conjunction with other members of the multidisciplinary team, people living with persistent pain can manage their pain and not let it impact their life.

People living with persistent pain often are afraid of exercising because it will increase their pain experience, but it is actually more likely to hurt a lot more if you don’t move. It only takes about a week in bed for muscles to begin wasting away and joints to stiffen, so a stretch and strengthening program can help build fitness and flexibility which will help people to better cope with persistent pain.

Physiotherapy can help develop an individualised exercise program for you that will help you build that strength and fitness.

You don’t have to be controlled by your pain. See your Physiotherapist and together we will assist you to regain your life.
