Kerrie loves ‘Bruce’!

Meet Kerrie – and ‘Bruce’, the U-Step Walker that changed her life, with help from the team at Better Rehab.

Kerrie has dystonia, epilepsy, complex migraines, cervical spine degeneration, and complex neurological pain syndrome. She would often fall while walking, leading to severe injuries, including fractured ribs and nose.

Life was extremely hard for Kerrie – until the Better Rehab team developed a personalised solution designed to target her pain points, boost her confidence and help her regain independence.

A customised solution

Better Rehab’s Radhika (Physiotherapist), Megan (Occupational Therapist) and Jodi (Speech Pathologist) worked with Kerrie and her personal advisor Amanda to develop a customised U-Step Walker that Kerrie calls ‘Bruce’.

To best meet Kerrie’s needs, Radhika added a push-down handle to ‘Bruce’, so now Kerrie not only gets stability support when she walks, but also a breaking system for added security and confidence. Radhika also added a Dictus splint to improve Kerrie’s walking pattern and posture.

As a result, Kerrie can independently get up from the floor, safely walk outside and even take part in community events with her carers. She couldn’t be happier.
‘Bruce is my mate,’ she says. ‘He won’t let me fall unless I skateboard down a handrail with him! A lot of time and effort was put into this to enable me to get this walker and leg braces. Thanks, Better Rehab!’
