Andrew discovers the joys of exercise

Andrew discovers the joys of exercise with his Exercise Physiologist!

Andrew has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and has been leading a very sedentary lifestyle. The isolation caused by COVID and school shutdown certainly did not help. His family accessed the services of Better Rehab to help Andrew return to physical activity, and he has since discovered the joys of exercise with the help of his Exercise Physiologist Chris.

Andrew now does various workouts—from walking on the treadmill to tennis ball throws—as a way to regulate his mood, improve his physical endurance and simply have fun!

Chris shared with us some of the exercises Andrew has been doing during their sessions:

  • treadmill walking
  • ball throws with a 5kg medicine ball
  • kicking drills with a kids ball
  • tennis ball catch and throw
  • kettlebell upright rows
  • theraband bicep curls, lateral raises, front raises and straight arm pull downs
  • chair squats
  • baseball (hit the tennis ball with a foam roller)
  • jumping forwards
  • scooter
  • dumbbell shoulder press
  • wobble board balancing
  • marching around the room
  • seated knee extension

That’s quite a list!

Andrew is now planning to return to a local gym to maintain his active lifestyle.
