Roll On October is an initiative of Wheelchair Sports NSW / ACT in order to raise funds to help more people living with a disability become involved in sport.
Seher gets rolling with her Cogy wheelchair, which was purchased privately last year with the assistance of her Occupational Therapist Sarah! Seher’s family initially engaged Better Rehab’s OT services for assistance with complex home modification, as they wanted to install a ramp leading to their front door so Seher can easily gain access.
Seher then worked with Sarah to acquire a suitable manual wheelchair with power assist, as she has outgrown her previous wheelchair. Sarah also conducted training with Seher’s school around completing safe transfers to and from the wheelchair whilst maintaining Seher’s independence.
Looks like the new wheelchair and transfer training paid off, as Seher was able to raise more than $1K and rolled almost 20km! She participated in this year’s Roll On October to “encourage wheelchair sport for my age group”. What an impressive feat!
Seher’s future goals include installing a dog lead attachment to her wheelchair, and to trial assistive technology to ensure her independence with her shower routine.
