How Better Rehab helped turn Annie’s frown upside down!

For 10-year-old Annie, behavioural issues meant even going to fun events like family gatherings was hard. But with the support of Better Rehab clinicians, Annie is now able to better deal with situations than ever before.

The Better Rehab team of behaviour support practitioners and exercise physiologists started working with Annie three months ago. Diagnosed with fragile X syndrome, autism spectrum disorder and moderate-to-severe intellectual disability, Annie behaved aggressively to others and herself – pulling hair, hitting and biting.

Our clinicians have have provided both behaviour support strategies and active support with daily activities like packing an overnight bag. It’s an approach that is starting to pay dividends.

“Annie’s willingness to engage has significantly improved throughout her therapy journey,” says Daria, a Better Rehab Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner. “However, sometimes she is not in the mood for therapy, so it has been important to be flexible in our approach and set realistic goals and expectations for each session.”

Annie’s mum Sarah’s dedication to implementing the positive behaviour support strategies every day and night has been instrumental in Annie’s improvement. Together they can now look forward to a better life.
